Summers Are Meant For Thriving

When school is not in session, many local children go without a meal, and are often home alone. The Salvation Army has several summer programs that provide kids the opportunity to enjoy healthy meals, play sports, engage in fun activities and experience summer camp.

Help Local Kids Have A Great Summer

How We Help

Please contact your local Community Center for more information on their specific programs.

Summer Day Camp

The Summer Enrichment Camps typically run June through August each year and are open Monday through Friday. The Summer Enrichment Camps offer the following for kids ages 6-12.

  • Recreation
  • Field Trips
  • Computer literacy
  • Crafts
  • Spiritual development
  • Academic maintenance

Programs for teens are also offered. Contact your local center for more details.

Storybook Picnic

On a mission to enrich the minds and bodies of children, we take a Salvation Army canteen (mobile feeding truck) to local neighborhoods. Our staff and volunteers distribute hot meals and free, age-appropriate books to kids ranging in age from 1-18. We hope to expand the program into more Tri-State communities each summer.

Located in beautiful Oregonia, Ohio, Camp SWONEKY (Swo-neck-ee) is the highlight of summer for many area youth and is often their first opportunity to experience the beauty of nature in a camp setting. During the summer months, there are a variety of summer camping programs for campers ages 7-13.  Our local community centers use generous donations to fund the camp experience for kids in their neighborhood.

The innovative programming provides an opportunity for physical, social, educational and spiritual growth. A few highlights include:

  • Playgrounds
  • Swimming pool
  • Lake for boating and fishing
  • Nature center
  • Craft lodge
  • Ropes course
  • Children's petting farm
  • Basketball courts
  • Baseball/softball fields
  • Campfire amphitheater
  • and so much more

An integral part of the goal of Camp SWONEKY is to help children grow in awareness and knowledge of God. Camp-wide Sunday morning worship services are conducted in addition to daily Morning Discovery and daily cabin devotions.

Camp SWONEKY is licensed by the State of Ohio, accredited by the American Camp Association, and is a member of the Christian Camp and Conference Association.
