Christmas Assistance 2017

Winter is an especially hard time for those already struggling to get by. Heating bills go up, and little ones grow so quickly out of coats and other clothes needed to keep warm. For those who most need something to celebrate, Christmas can be an unaffordable expense. We share the merriment of the season with all, bringing warmth, presents, and holiday meals so that everyone can share in the love of family and neighbors.

Help us bring comfort and joy to those who need it most.

Adopt-a-Family and Adopt-a-Senior Programs

Last year, almost 300 families were sponsored through our Adopt-a-Family program. Social facilities of The Salvation Army and dozens of local agencies and schools refer families to the program. All families are verified low-income, and those accepted into the program are paired with kind-hearted and generous sponsors who purchase presents for the families. Gifts are then wrapped, and dropped off by sponsors at our distribution center.  Low-income seniors, many of them living alone, can also be "adopted" by sponsors.  Combined, these programs brought much-needed items and a little Christmas magic to almost 1,500 individuals in the Cincinnati area last Christmas.

Toy Shop

The Salvation Army Toy Shop is a Christmas toy store for those families who cannot afford to provide toys for their children at Christmas. In 2016, thanks to financial donations throughout the area and The U.S. Marines Reserve Toys for Tots program, almost 1,700 families were able to give their children books and toys from the Toy Shop.

Thousands of handmade doll clothes, dolls, teddy bears, and books are provided to low-income children through The Salvation Army's Toy Shop Auxiliary, in addition to financial considerations from their annual Charity Doll Auction.  This year's event takes place Saturday, November 4th. More information can be found here.

Participation in Toy Shop is completed via an on-site registration process, generally held in late October each year. Parents or guardians wishing to participate in Toy Shop must register in-person at a facility of The Salvation Army.

Holiday Gift Baskets

Each year, hundreds of gift baskets are distributed to families that might not otherwise have a great meal for Christmas. The Salvation Army relies upon the generosity of local donors to supply the contents for these bountiful gift baskets, as well as financial contributions providing the means to purchase items for the baskets.
