Christmas Assistance 2018

Christmas is an especially hard time for those already struggling to get by. Heating bills go up, and little ones grow so quickly out of coats and other clothes needed to keep warm. For those who most need something to celebrate, Christmas can be an unaffordable expense. With the help of our community, The Salvation Army shares the merriment and love of the season by providing warmth, presents, and holiday meals so that everyone can share in the love of family and neighbors.

Give Now To #LoveYourNeighbor this Christmas

Adopt-a-Family and Adopt-a-Senior Programs

Every year, hundreds of families are sponsored through our Adopt-a-Family program. In 2017, 577 families including 176 seniors were "adopted" by 402 sponsors. Dozens of local agencies and schools refer families to The Salvation Army every year for Christmas and seasonal assistance. All families are verified low-income, and those accepted into the program are paired with kind-hearted and generous sponsors who purchase presents for the families. Gifts are then wrapped, and dropped off by sponsors at our distribution center.  Low-income seniors, many of them living alone, can also be "adopted" by sponsors. You can become a sponsor and help provide much-needed items and a little Christmas magic to families in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky at Christmas.

The Salvation Army's Annual Toy Shop and Toy Shop Auxiliary

The Salvation Army Toy Shop is a Christmas toy store for families who cannot afford to provide toys and presents for their children at Christmas. In 2017, 1,645 families inclusive of 4,105 children were given books and toys through The Salvation Army thanks to generous financial donations and assistance from The U.S. Marines Reserve Toys for Tots program.  In addition, over 500 individual and corporate volunteers are a part of these programs every year.

Participation in The Salvation Army's Toy Shop is completed via an on-site registration process, generally held in late October each year. Parents or guardians wishing to participate in The Salvation Army Toy Shop must register in-person at a facility of The Salvation Army. More information will be coming soon on how to register for 2018.

In addition, children receive a loving gift of a doll or teddy bear, handmade doll clothes and books made possible by The Salvation Army's Toy Shop Auxiliary at the Toy Shop. Check out this story on the Toy Shop Auxiliary from 2017

Holiday Gift Baskets

Every year, hundreds of gift baskets are distributed to families that might not otherwise have a great meal for Christmas. The Salvation Army relies upon the generosity of local donors to supply the contents for these bountiful gift baskets, as well as financial contributions providing the means to purchase items for the baskets.
