MORE ABOUT THE TOY SHOP AUXILIARY--A TRADITION OF LOVE AT CHRISTMAS
The Toy Shop Auxiliary was started in 1956 to support and assist The Salvation Army with its significant toy distribution efforts at Christmas. As part of The Salvation Army's Toy Shop program, The Toy Shop Auxiliary furnishes lovingly dressed dolls, bears and books to the parents who come to The Salvation Army's Toy Shop for help for their children at Christmas time.
All year long in preparation for Christmas, The Toy Shop Auxiliary purchases a large number of dolls that are dressed by its members and volunteers. A few years ago it was decided to also focus on books which the Auxiliary selects with the same attention to detail and care. The Toy Shop Auxiliary has distributed thousands of books, dolls and bears to the sponsored families at Christmas, all at no cost to the families or The Salvation Army.
HOW THEY DO IT
The major fundraiser is the Annual Toy Shop Fundraiser & Doll Auction held in November and is open to the public. The event includes both a silent and live auction of dolls, and a display of all the dolls to be distributed at the Toy Shop. The sale of the dolls via the auctions at the event provides the funds to purchase the dolls and books for distribution to the children the following year.
For a sneak peak of dolls and other auction items available this year, please see the attachment at the bottom of the page.
DOLL OUTFITS & QUILTS
It takes many volunteers and many hours of sacrifice and love to make all the doll outfits and quilts that are given away each year by the Toy Shop Auxiliary. The Salvation Army is very grateful to all those who volunteer their time, talent and treasures to benefit the children who receive the blessing of this ministry
