The Salvation Army Makes Appeal for Adopt-a-Family Sponsors

Annual Christmas Program Serves Approximately 500 Families and Seniors Each Year

Cincinnati, OH (October 27, 2014) –The Salvation Army today announced that it is making an appeal for sponsors to participate in its annual Adopt-a-Family program.  This annual program provides gifts for low-income families and seniors who are sponsored by generous individuals, groups and companies. Each year, the program serves approximately 500 families and seniors, in total, ensuring they receive gifts for Christmas.

“We’re deeply grateful to those who can sponsor a family,” noted Sarah Wagner, Director of Social Ministries at The Salvation Army.  “We are blessed every year by the generosity of Adopt-a-Family sponsors who come forward to provide gifts for others, and are confident that many compassionate individuals and groups will come forward when they hear about the program.  It’s a great source of joy to the sponsors, as they get to help a less-fortunate family or senior at Christmas.”

Sponsors for Adopt-a-Family can specify the size of family for whom they will provide gifts, and there are no requirements as to how much is spent on the gifts – that is left to the discretion of the sponsors.  Once agreeing to sponsor a family, sponsors will be provided with information that provides a wish list of key items desired by the family, but it is left to the sponsors to determine what they’ll purchase and how much they’ll spend. Sponsors will be asked to purchase and wrap the gifts for their sponsored family, and drop them off on December 8th or 9th at a location to be provided to them.

The best way to get started is to complete the Adopt-a-Family Sponsor Application form, which can be found online by visiting http://swo.salvationarmy.org/SouthwestOhio/aaf-sponsors. Or, for more information, contact The Salvation Army via e-mail at swo.adoptafamily@use.salvationarmy.org. The support of the community in meeting this need is greatly appreciated.
