Cincinnati, OH (September 8, 2015) – The Salvation Army today announced that it will hold an event to mark the Annual Day of Prayer for Human Trafficking Victims. The event will take place on Sunday, September 27, 2015. It will be held at The Salvation Army Citadel Chapel, downtown, at 120 E. Central Parkway, starting at 11 am. The event will feature a prayer service in the Citadel Chapel, led by Major Holly Daniels of The Salvation Army Citadel Corps, and Erin Meyer, The Salvation Army’s Anti-Human Trafficking program manager. Those in attendance will be invited to stay for a cook-out and a balloon release for local victims of human trafficking.
“It’s important that we pray for those who are daily victimized by the evil of human trafficking,” stated Major Larry Ashcraft, Divisional Commander at The Salvation Army. “We’re working every day to address this issue in our local community, and as Christians we recognize the relevance and power of prayer as we seek to combat this crime against others.”
Since 2012, The Salvation Army’s local Anti-Human Trafficking program has served more than 400 individuals through outreach, case management and crisis intervention programs. In addition, thousands have been educated to better understand and recognize human trafficking in our modern culture. This encourages them to engage the problem, and volunteer and donate to become part of the solution.
“We’re busy every day as we seek to provide solutions for those caught in the trap of human trafficking,” stated Erin Meyer. “We encourage those who are victims, or others that are simply interested in learning more about how to help, to join us for this event.”
To report a potential trafficking situation or for someone in need of support and resources, please call the Human Trafficking Hotline at 513-800-1863. Individuals in need of services can also come to The Salvation Army’s drop-in program, “The Well,” on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm for food and support.
