The Salvation Army's "Christmas in July" Campaign Surpassed Goal

Funds Support Youth Development Programs in Greater Cincinnati

Cincinnati, OH (August 7, 2014) – The Salvation Army in Greater Cincinnati today announced it exceeded its $60,000 goal for the “Christmas in July” Campaign. The campaign is a mid-year fundraising effort that supports The Salvation Army’s various youth development programs, including after-school mentoring, summer enrichment and camping opportunities.

“We’re deeply grateful to all those who contributed to the success of the campaign,” stated Major Larry Ashcraft, Divisional Commander at The Salvation Army.  “Our work with local children is an important part of our efforts to impact their lives for the better.  It improves their skills and opportunities, and increases their hope for the future.  This is essential in building stronger neighborhoods.”

The campaign had a $60,000 goal to support local youth programs at The Salvation Army Community Centers across Greater Cincinnati.  The goal was readily exceeded.  “We’re especially grateful to Kroger for allowing us to place the kettles in their stores this past July,” stated Matt Pearce, Development Director at The Salvation Army.  “As well, all those who volunteered to ring bells, and of course, all of those who made a contribution merit our thanks.”

The next campaign to utilize the iconic red kettles will be at Christmas time, starting mid-November and running through Christmas Eve.  Last year, the local Salvation Army raised more than $800,000 from the Red Kettle Campaign at Christmas, and hope to exceed that level later this year.  Volunteers are needed to ring bells for the November-December campaign; those interested can contact Michelle Jones, kettle coordinator, at 513-762-5600.
