Cincinnati, OH (August 7, 2015) – The Salvation Army today announced that it exceeded its goal of $70,000 for the 2015 “Christmas in July” Campaign, raising nearly $78,000. The campaign provides financial support for The Salvation Army’s various children and youth programs that operate across Greater Cincinnati.
“We’re deeply grateful for this supportive response from the community,” stated Major Larry Ashcraft, Divisional Commander at The Salvation Army. “These funds provide the means for us to provide important programs to less-fortunate children in our community. That makes a difference in their lives today, and well into the future. Those who supported our July kettles have made an important investment in the future of our local youth.”
Last year, more than 2,000 local children were directly impacted by The Salvation Army’s programs that include After-school, Summer Enrichment/Day Camp and Camp SWONEKY. Through these programs, area children are provided with meals, mentoring, and tutoring, and participate in a wide range of physical, social and skill development activities.
“A big ‘thank you’ to all those who donated to the kettles this July, and to Kroger for allowing us to be in their stores this time of year,” stated Matt Pearce, Development Director at The Salvation Army. “The kettles are iconic at Christmas, and they’re growing in awareness and support in July – we’re very grateful.”
The next Salvation Army kettle campaign will take place during the up-coming holiday season, starting in mid-November and running through Christmas Eve. This year, The Salvation Army will be partnering with the Cincinnati Bengals at the November 5th Thursday night game vs. the Cleveland Browns, to collect funds and get an early jump-start on the campaign. New this year is a partnership with the Western & Southern Thanksgiving Day Race, as legendary radio host Jim Scott will run to benefit the mission and work of The Salvation Army in the local community.
