The Salvation Army Camp Auxiliary Announces 2nd Annual "HOPE for Camp SWONEKY" Fundraising Event

Annual Event Serves to Benefit Local Children's Camp

Cincinnati, OH (March 2, 2015) – The Salvation Army Camp SWONEKY Auxiliary today announced the 2nd Annual “HOPE for Camp SWONEKY” event, to benefit children who attend The Salvation Army’s Camp SWONEKY. The event will be held the evening of Friday, May 8th, 2015, starting at 6:30 pm, at the beautiful Kenwood Country Club.  The event will feature dinner and both silent and live auctions.  Auctioneer will be Steve Early Jr., of the Early Auction Company in Milford, OH.  Cost is $75 per ticket.

“The camp is a wonderful opportunity to reach children and change their lives,” explained Major Larry Ashcraft, Divisional Commander at The Salvation Army.  “My life was changed at Camp SWONEKY many years ago, and we continue to change lives there year after year.  That’s why we’re so grateful to the Camp Auxiliary’s efforts to benefit the camp.”

“The new event format was a great success for us last year,” stated Jill Smith, event co-chair for the Camp Auxiliary and long-serving Advisory Board member of The Salvation Army in Cincinnati.  “We raised a record amount to support the children who attend the local camp, and that made us feel great about the work we’re doing.  Our goal this year is to have another great event to keep the momentum going.”

Camp SWONEKY, located about 30 miles north of Cincinnati in Oregonia, OH, hosts more than 1,000 children each summer through a series of camp experiences.  Opened in the 1950s, Camp SWONEKY has served tens of thousands of area children, providing a camp experience that seeks to enrich the lives of children. The Salvation Army Camp Auxiliary has been active since 1956, and has had an immeasurable impact on the camp facilities and the many thousands of children who have benefitted from the camp.  Over the years, the Camp Auxiliary has provided t-shirts and personal hygiene items for the children who attend camp, and have also contributed to substantially enhance the camp facilities, with various donations to add new features and improve the camp’s offerings.

“We are so very grateful for the work of our Camp Auxiliary members,” stated Major Janet Ashcraft, Divisional Director of Women’s Ministries at The Salvation Army.  “They have been a consistent, loyal and compassionate group whose contributions of time, talent and treasure have helped us better serve the children and families at camp.”
