The Salvation Army in Batavia Receives $2500 Donation from Monsanto's America's Farmers Grow Communities Program

Farmers Karl & Libby Walker Nominated The Salvation Army; Funds will Support Local Food Pantry

Batavia, OH (March 12, 2015) – The Salvation Army in Batavia, Ohio today announced that it received a $2,500 donation from “America’s Farmers Grow Communities,” a program of the Monsanto Fund.  The Salvation Army was nominated to receive the donation by Karl and Libby Walker, who farm in both Warren and Clermont counties in Ohio. The funds will be used to purchase food items for The Salvation Army’s pantry that supports families across Clermont County.

“We’re deeply grateful to the Walkers for nominating us, and to the Monsanto Fund for their community focus through the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program,” stated Capt. Roy Offenberger at The Salvation Army Batavia Community Center.  “Every day, we meet with families and individuals that are in need of help.  Food is a primary item that these families request, and these funds will go a long way to restocking our pantry shelves.”

Last year, The Salvation Army in Clermont County provided Emergency Assistance to more than 14,000 individuals.  This is a critical area of need, and has a profound impact on families in the local community.

“We are encouraged by the work The Salvation Army is doing in this community,” stated Dan Lynch, District Sales Manager for Channel, a subsidiary of Monsanto.  “We’re pleased that this program is able to help those in the local community most in need, and will be put to immediate use to purchase food for families in Clermont County.”
