The Salvation Army's Toy Shop Auxiliary Raised More than $17,000 to Benefit Children;

Annual Fundraiser & Doll Auction Provides Books, Dolls, Toys and Stuffed Bears to Children at Christmas

Cincinnati, OH (November 5, 2014) – The Salvation Army Toy Shop Auxiliary today announced that it raised more than $17,000 at its 58th annual Fundraiser & Doll Auction, which benefits area children.  The annual event was held Saturday, November 1st at the Armstrong Chapel in Indian Hill.  The proceeds are used to purchase dolls, books, toys and stuffed bears that are distributed to area children in need each Christmas.

“We’re very grateful to all those who supported our event this year,” stated Phyllis Poeppelmeier, Toy Shop Auxiliary president.  “We had a wonderful assortment of auction and boutique merchandise available, which proved to be very popular with our guests.”

“The Toy Shop Auxiliary is a blessing to us,” stated Major Janet Ashcraft.  “The women in our auxiliary groups have long served the mission of The Salvation Army.  Those in the Toy Shop Auxiliary have such a heart for making Christmas a bit brighter for local children that otherwise might not receive anything.”  This Christmas, 5,000 or more children will benefit from the work of the Toy Shop Auxiliary.

Fundraising activities included a silent auction of “So Cincinnati” merchandise, a boutique and the much-anticipated live auction of dolls, each creatively and lovingly presented with additional outfits and accessories.  “The dolls were dressed by auxiliary members as well as a virtual army of volunteers across the city,” explained Margaret Steinmann, Toy Shop Auxiliary member who oversees event publicity.  “We’re so grateful for their service, and always amazed by their creativity and skill in dressing dolls that are a delight to behold.”

Next year, the 59th annual Toy Shop Auxiliary Fundraiser & Doll Auction will be held on Saturday, November 14th, 2015.  Mark your calendars now so you’ll be sure to be part of this great event.
