Ohio Valley Foundation Provides Funds for Pool at Camp SWONEKY

The Salvation Army Receives $25,000 from the Ohio Valley Foundation, Fifth Third Bank, Agent

Funds Support Construction of a New Pool at Camp SWONEKY, Serving Area Children & Families

Cincinnati, OH (March 24, 2014) – The Salvation Army today announced that it received $25,000 from the Ohio Valley Foundation, Fifth Third Bank, Agent. The funds provide support for a new pool at The Salvation Army’s Camp SWONEKY.  A new pool was necessitated by the age of the original pool, constructed in 1957, and on-going maintenance and safety issues associated with the original pool.  The new pool, currently under construction, will provide a safe, fun recreational experience for the thousands of children and families that will enjoy the new facility for many years to come.

“We’re delighted to receive this support from the Ohio Valley Foundation,” stated Major Larry Ashcraft, Divisional Commander at The Salvation Army.  “I remember well my own experiences at Camp SWONEKY as a child – it changed my life.  It’s important to local children and families that we have the opportunity to impact their lives in the manner we do at camp.  The pool is a key element of the overall experience at camp, and we need to ensure it is safe and enjoyable.”

The Salvation Army’s Camp SWONEKY, located in Oregonia, OH, served nearly 1,400 individuals last year.  Most attendees at Camp SWONEKY are children and teens that come from underprivileged families, who would otherwise not have the opportunity to participate in the recreational, educational and social programs offered at the camp.

“We provide a unique experience to the children, teens and adults that attend camp,” stated Capt. Shaun Belanger, Divisional Youth and Candidates Secretary at The Salvation Army.  “We’re blessed to have the opportunity to touch and impact the lives of so many youth in our local community, as well as to receive the support of so many who appreciate our work at Camp.”
