The Salvation Army Seeks Applicants for New Low-Income Senior Housing Facility

Facility Administrators & Staff are Eager to Welcome New Residents Later this Year

Cincinnati, OH (October 1, 2014) – The Salvation Army announced today that it is actively seeking applicants for its new Catherine Booth Residence for low-income seniors. The new facility, currently under construction on Center Hill Ave in North College Hill, will begin occupancy late this year.  The facility will be operated as a 4% low-income tax credit project through the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  Applicants must have a head-of-household that is at least 62 years of age, and meet specified income and household size requirements.

“We’re eager to welcome those who will be living at the Catherine Booth Residence,” stated Major Tim Lyle, General Secretary at The Salvation Army.  “Our mission is to meet human needs, and certainly we see an increasing need for high-quality, cost-effective housing for an aging population.”

Like the Booth Residence operated by The Salvation Army adjacent to the new facility, the Catherine Booth Residence will provide safe and comfortable apartments at a moderate cost.  The new facility, consisting of two new buildings, will provide 96 single-bedroom apartments.  The key amenities of the facility include: elevators; laundry on each floor; open floor plans; 1st floor community rooms, with outdoor covered porches; 2nd and 3rd floor resident lounges; and a convenience store in each building for resident’s immediate needs.

“We’re committed to serving the area’s low-income seniors at the new facility, as we have for many years at our existing center,” stated Theresa Childs, administrator of The Salvation Army’s Booth and Catherine Booth residences in Cincinnati.  “We’ve created a wonderful community at the facility we’ve operated here for many years, and look forward to the relationships we will build with those we have yet to meet and welcome to their new home.”

In all cases, the Booth residences have a policy of nondiscrimination and equal housing opportunity.  All services and accommodations at the facility are available to persons without regard to race, color, religion, sex, familial status, ancestry, military status, disability or national origin.  Booth does not discriminate on the basis of handicapped status in the admission or access to, or treatment or employment in, its federally assisted programs and activities.

Applicants must meet the age and income guidelines established by HUD.  For more information, please call Theresa Childs, Booth Administrator, at (513) 242-4482.
